What to Expect From Your First Cryotherapy Session
Trying something new can often feel daunting, especially when it comes to cold-based wellness treatments. That’s why we offer a personalised induction for all new cryotherapy customers. Your consultant will explain everything from how the equipment works to what the session will feel like, and answer any questions you have. Whether you’re new to cryo or brand new to The Tanning Shop, we’re here to make your first-time cryotherapy treatment a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
Please arrive 5 minutes before your appointment. A consultant will welcome you and set up your biometric account security to complete your registration, ensuring only you can access your sessions.
We’ll discuss your wellness goals, how the Zerobody bed works, session length, what the treatment will feel like, and how cryotherapy can support your routine.
We offer affordable, flexible pricing, including single sessions, packages, and monthly memberships. We’ll discuss all pricing options to find one that suits your budget and goals.
Your consultant will show you to your private cryotherapy bed, ask you to lie down, hand you the emergency stop button, and place the cooling membrane over your body before starting your session.
Focus on your breathing as the base gently lowers and cold water fills the membrane. Once the session finishes, your consultant will remove the cover and leave you to reacclimatise.

What is Dry Floatation Cold Therapy?
So, what does cryotherapy do? Cold water immersion therapy is widely used throughout beauty, sport, and medicine thanks to its far-reaching mental and physiological benefits. Cold temperatures have been shown to significantly impact muscle recovery, pain reduction, skin rejuvenation, and overall vitality.
At The Tanning Shop, we use an innovative “dry” cold therapy called Zerobody Cryo, giving you all the benefits of a traditional ice bath without getting wet.
How Does the Zerobody Cryo Bed Work?
The Zerobody Cryo bed is a revolution for the world of cold therapy. Innovative in its simplicity, safety, and accessibility, it features a patented water membrane that gently exposes your body to temperatures between 4-6°C without direct contact with water. The experience is designed to feel controlled, comfortable, and consistent throughout the session.
- Full-body benefits without getting wet
- Robust, patented technology for reliable results you can trust
- Touch-screen display with emergency stop function

Is Dry Floatation Cryotherapy Right for Me?
Our cryotherapy treatment is popular with customers looking to support:
- Muscle recovery and post-exercise routines
- Circulation and immune health
- Energy levels and overall well-being
Whether you lead an active lifestyle or are simply curious about cold-based wellness experiences, your in-salon consultant can help you decide if cryotherapy is right for you.
What Does Cryotherapy Feel Like?
Many first-time customers are surprised by how manageable cryotherapy feels. Sessions are often described as cold but refreshing, short and invigorating, and energising rather than uncomfortable. Cold exposure lasts only a few minutes, and your consultant will talk you through the entire process to ensure you feel confident, informed and supported throughout your session.

Cryotherapy FAQs for New Customers
Is Cryotherapy Suitable for Beginners?
Yes. Our dry floatation cryotherapy is suitable for first-time users. Sessions are calm, guided, and designed to be accessible for customers who may feel unsure about traditional cryotherapy methods.
What Happens During My First Cryotherapy Session?
At your first visit, a trained consultant will clearly explain how the session works, what to expect, and how to stay comfortable during your therapy. You’ll then relax on the bed while the cooling phase runs automatically.
Will I Get Wet During My Session?
No. Our sessions use dry flotation technology, so you remain completely dry throughout.
How Cold is Cryotherapy?
The Zerobody Cryo bed functions at 4-6°C, providing an exhilarating and effective treatment without exposure to extreme temperatures.
How Long is a Cryotherapy Session at The Tanning Shop?
Our cryo sessions last 3-5 minutes.
How Long Does it Take for Cryotherapy to Work?
Experiences vary from person to person. Some customers describe feeling refreshed or energised after a single session, while others incorporate cryotherapy into their routine over time. Your salon consultant will help create an ideal plan tailored to your specific goals.
How is Dry Floatation Different From Traditional Cryotherapy?
Unlike traditional whole-body cryotherapy chambers that use extreme cold or liquid nitrogen, Zerobody offers a gentler, more comfortable experience. It also differs from conventional ice baths or cold plunges by providing a “dry cold” experience, rather than immersion in water or ice.
Can Anyone Do Whole-Body Cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is a safe, non-invasive wellness treatment; however, it may not be suitable if you suffer from medical conditions that could be exacerbated by cold exposure. If you have any existing medical conditions or concerns about treatment, consult a healthcare professional before booking a session.
Is There an Age Restriction for Cryotherapy in the UK?
Yes, you must be 16 or older to use the cryotherapy beds at The Tanning Shop.
